Welcome back Reception/Y1 !!heart

A big welcome back to all of you! I hope you had a wonderful Easter holidays and made lots of memories together. This term our new topic is 'Once upon a time'. The children have been busy E.P.I.C planning and have generated some lovely questions to investigate and explore in class. As the weather is getting warmer please make sure that sun cream is applied prior to children coming to school. Please also make sure that your child brings a sunhat and water bottle to school each day.

If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to get in touch

Reading in class

Reading at home with your child is extremely important, as this is when they are able to put into practise the techniques and skills they have been learning in class.  Reading with your child little but often is best. When your child is ready to start on the Oxford Reading Scheme you will be sent a text to let you know what day your child's reading day will be. On your child’s reading day they will read their reading book to the class teacher or teaching assistant, who will then change their book(s) if it is appropriate. Please note if a child is unsure when reading a book, it will be re-sent home in order to help with confidence and fluency. Please ensure your child’s reading book and red reading record book is in their bag on their correct reading day. It is important to fill out your child’s reading record as this is a good way to track reading progress and inform us of any difficulties or achievements your child has made whilst reading at home. For more information and help on reading at home please click on the subheading 'Reading Information' below.

PE timetable

The children will be taking part in PE every Tuesday and Friday. Please make sure that the children come into school wearing their PE kit and suitable trainers on these days.

Homework

Homework will be uploaded onto the school webite each Friday and will need to be returned to school the following Monday. We aim to make the tasks fun and practical, we understand how precious family time is and aim for homework to be an enjoyable experience. I would love to see any pictures of you completing the different tasks to share with the class smiley

Weekly spellings and sounds to practice over the week will be uploaded to the homework section each Friday. The children will be tested on these words/sounds the following Friday in class.
