Maths & Numeracy

Lines of symmetry

Friday 27th January

This week we have been calculating angles in triangles. We first identified the type of triangle it is, which allows us to determine how to calculate it. I.e

Scalene = all angles are different so we add up the two angles measured and then subtract it from 180 to reach our answer.

Isosceles = 2 angles are always the same

Equilateral = all angles are 60 degrees

Right-angle triangle = always has a right angle (90 degrees)

REMEMBER! All angles in a triangle add up to 180 degrees

20th January 2023

This week we have been researching the properties of shapes, including those of the 4 different types of triangles; isosceles, equilateral, scalene and right-angle triangle. We have also begun to calculate the area of compound shapes and triangles.

For homework please can you revise the formula for calculating the area of triangles. Remember to multiply the base and the height and then divide by 2.

17th January 2023

This week we have been revising the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.

For homework, please could you revise your knowledge of the properties by playing these games on the  links below.

Adding fractions

This week we have been adding fractions with like an unlike denominators.

If fractions have the same denominators, then we simply just add the numerators.

If fractions have different denominators, then we need to find a common multiple to convert our denominators to.

REMEMBER - whatever we multiple the denominator by we have to do the same to the numerator.

Try some of the challenges below for homework.

Choose your level of learning and the maths topic you wish to revise. Try to practise skills daily to refresh your memory.

Friday 7th October

We have been looking at the value of digits after the decimal point and have been identifying their positions on number lines, comparing their values and ordering them.

We created a success criteria for comparing and ordering decimals in class and used it to help us complete challenges successfully.

Remember to compare each digit carefully before ordering. Start with the whole numbers before the decimal point, before moving on to compare the tenths, then the hundredths and finally the thousandths.

Subtraction

This week we have been using subtraction to check our addition work, and we have also been revising different subtraction methods.

We revised column subtraction using borrowing, partitioning and the frog method.

Below there are some example worksheets to consolidate understanding.

9th September 2022

This week we have been identified areas for revision with  basic calculations, place value and times tables. Next week we will begin looking more closely at the value of digits and partitioning numbers.

Before we begin our new maths topic, test your knowledge of place value by playing the 'Who wants to be a Hundredaire?'

Click on the calculator below to access the game.
