Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
The weather has improved this week and we have been busy tidying up the school garden and refilling our planters with our ‘home made’ compost. Our Eco Committee are keeping us on track with our environmental work and we are hoping to see a press release this week in the Evening Post sharing our fantastic 5th Platinum Renewal with the wider community.
We would like to invite our Nursery parents to take part in an innovative initiative run by Multiply Swansea Numeracy, from Swansea University. This project is specifically designed to empower parents to actively support their children's numeracy skills during the critical transition from nursery to reception.
The project centres on cultivating a positive relationship with mathematics through engaging and playful activities. The family learning workshops will start on Tuesday 4th June at 10.45am-12.15pm and will run each Tuesday, for 4 weeks at Cilâ Primary School. They are designed to create enjoyable shared experiences for parents and children. The last half an hour of each session will involve both you and your child. These workshops will align broadly with Progression Step 1 for Mathematics and Numeracy. If any of our Nursery parents are interested in attending these workshops, please can you register your interest in the school office by Friday 10th May.
Library Visits
Our Year 4 pupils will be visiting Killay library on Thursday April 18th. They will visit the library every Thursday until half-term, weather permitting. Fingers crossed!
Welsh Government - Changes to Work Place Recycling
The new recycling law applies to all workplaces in Wales. The new law came into effect on 6 April 2024. It means all workplaces such as businesses, public sector and charities now need to separate their recyclable materials in the same way most households already do.
Wales is currently third in the world when it comes to recycling waste from households. The recycling rate of waste material collected by our local authorities is currently at just over 65% and helps save around 400,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year. The aim is to build on the success of household recycling and ensure high recycling rates across workplaces too. The benefits of increasing recycling are that it:
In Cilâ we have been recycling for many years, however to support us in our recycling journey we kindly ask for children who have a lunch box to take their rubbish home as we do not have the facilities or resources to wash out all containers and cartons of varying materials during the lunchtime, and do not want to encourage the children to place their dirty materials into black bags when they can be cleaned at home and recycled. We thank you in advance for your understanding and support.
We have had a great Easter week, hunting for eggs, rolling eggs and eating eggs! A huge thank you to you all for the fantastic bonnets and masks brought into school today for our Easter parade. They were amazing!
Happy Easter from all the staff at Cila Primary School.
Eco-Schools is a global programme engaging 19.5 million children across 70 countries, making it the largest educational programme on the planet. The programme was developed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in 1994 and run in Wales by Keep Wales Tidy.
It is designed to empower and inspire young people to make positive environmental changes to their school and wider community, while building on their skills, including numeracy and literacy, and encompassing Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship.
It was great to welcome Justin Tipuric to Cila today. Justin is a former Welsh international rugby union player who played for Wales as an openside flanker and currently plays for the Ospreys. A big thank you to him for taking time out of his busy timetable to work with the pupils to develop their rugby skills.
It was lovely to see so many parents at our school open evening, enjoying our display of Eisteddfod entries. Our pupils are so talented!!
A huge thank you to everyone for making our world book day such a special day by wearing such wonderful costumes and sharing your favourite books.
We have all had a wonderful day working with Alex, the Children's Laureate Wales. He has really inspired us with our creative writing and poetry.
