Welcome to Year 6!    

I am so excited to be a part of your final year in Cila! 

We have an incredibly busy year ahead of us, which will be full of exciting learning, transition and most importantly fun! 

This term our topic is 'Achieve, build, celebrate!'. Our main AOLE for the first half term is Expressive arts and in the second half term it is Numeracy. 

Important dates for this term 

1st March 2024 - Local authority notifies parents/carers of secondary school place offered. (All Wales offer date)

7th March - World book day

13th March - Assembly with Mr Kennedy (Headteacher) and Mr Williams (Assistant Head and ALNCo) from Olchfa 

28th March 2024 - date by which parents/carers can lodge an appeal for Secondary school placements

11th April 2024 - Tackling transition session with Fran (in-reach CAMHS practitioner)

16th April 2024 - Olchfa CHAT team visiting Cila (9am - 10am)

24th June - 28th June - Activity week 

2nd July - 5th July - Olchfa transition week

17th July - Leaver's assembly @ 9:15am

Check up Tests

Spelling words will be allocated on Spelling Shed on a Friday, in preparation for a test the following Friday. Access to Spelling Shed will be allowed in class and at home and time will be given throughout the week in class. Tests are then administered online with instant feedback and a breakdown of words spelt correctly and incorrectly. 

As well as spelling, punctuation and grammar lessons will also be allocated. Lessons and games will help support the learning objective - there is no test for this section. 

A numeracy check up test will also be completed on a Friday which will comprise of times tables and some questions linked to the current focus area.  

Homework 

Once we have completed our EPIC Planning, a new home learning menu will be set which will incorporate ideas and activities that cover the areas of learning and that the children have helped generate. Tasks can be completed in any order and brought in to share at any time over the half term period. 

Maths homework will be uploaded onto our class page sporadically for all to access at any time. It will help support our areas of learning in class.
