Interactive Maths Challenges
Imagine it’s 2034, and advanced technology allows you to preserve your favourite habitat in a special room in your home. You can enter this incredibly realistic virtual world any time you like. It is a perfectly safe and customizable habitat.
Describe the initial moments of stepping into your habitat—bring the burst of sensations to life as the door closes behind you. Detail the stunning visuals that greet your eyes, the cascade of familiar and comforting sounds, and the presence of any animals or features that make this place uniquely yours. Don’t forget to include how your thoughts, senses and emotions change as you enter through the door of your favourite room in the house.
Before you begin your writing, please contribute to the Padlet HERE, to help you to plan what you will write.

Good morning Year 4 and 5!
We began to look at different story genres yesterday, which generated some amazing discussions. Today, I would like you to contribute to the class Padlet here to consider some questions about the image below, then share and discuss your thoughts.
Next, you will be writing your own story, based on the prompt and image below. Please write your story in your Literacy Book, with the
LO: To write a story, using a prompt.
Remember to include interesting vocabulary and good punctuation! I look forward to reading your stories.
Have a great morning, Mrs Williams 😊
In an old library filled with ancient books, one book stands out. Write a story about a child who discovers this book and is whisked away to the stories within its pages. What wonderful world do they find, and what challenges do they face?
Wednesday 22nd May

We have been looking at reflectional symmetry recently.
Year 4
Today, the Year 4s can try to complete the shapes on the sheets, then try to colour the squares in to create a symmetrical pattern. The sheets you will need are in front of Joe - please stick them in your maths books with the
L.O: To compete shapes and patterns using reflectional symmetry
There are mirrors to help you, if you need them (Lina and Lucia can show you where they are).
Year 5
You have a challenge today - look at the images below. You will need to create boxes in your maths books, using the squares that are on the paper in your books.
When you have completed one, see how many designs you can come up with in your maths books!
Extension:
What designs can you make with a bigger square? One that is 4 x 4 squares in size?
Please write the L.O: To investigate reflective symmetry, in your books.
Have a lovely morning!

Wednesday 24th April 2024
Good morning Year 4/5! I am on a course this morning, but will be back at lunchtime
Your challenge this morning is to write an explanation on how to tell the time!
Imagine you are writing a guide for someone who has NO IDEA how to tell the time at all.
*How would you explain it?
*How could you show it?
*How could you make it as clear as possible to understand?
Try to make your guide detailed; clearly explaining all that you know about telling the time. (Write your explanation to the level that you can tell the time to. E.g: if you are most comfortable with reading time up to the nearest 5 minutes on an analogue clock and 12 hours on a digital one, then write your guide to that level. If you can tell the time on an analogue clock and digital 24 hours, then do that).
Please use J2e5 or PowerPoint to write your explanation. Send them to Williamse1735@hwbcymru.net once you have finished.
I look forward to reading them!

Good morning Year 4/5! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Have a look below to see what you are going to be doing today...
Language, Literacy and Communication
Nick Holly is a Swansea-born artist, known as the 'Welsh Lowry' - have a look the painting by C S Lowry (the late English artist) and the painting by Nick Holly below.
Discuss with your table: How are they similar? How are they different? Why is Nick Holly known as the Welsh Lowry?
Click on this link to write your thoughts on a class Padlet - remember to write your name in the title box.

Nick Holly
C S Lowry
At the back of the class are two photocopies of paintings by Nick Holly. One is of Caswell Bay, the other is Three Cliffs Bay. Choose the one you like most (though keep in mind that whichever you don't choose, you will be copying this afternoon in an art session).
Your challenge is to write a description of the scene in your Literacy book! Look carefully at what you can see in the painting -
*Who are the people?
*Imagine what they are doing and how they are feeling
*Why might they be at the beach?
*What is the weather like?
*What senses would be activated and how?
You have been looking at Super Sentences recently - look back over them in your Literacy books to remind you of how to use them and try to include AT LEAST two Super Sentences in your writing today.
Use the L.O: To write a creative description that includes interesting sentences.
I am really excited to read your work to find out how you have perceived the painting and to see the amazing descriptions you write!
You have until lunchtime to complete this work
Expressive Art
Look at your other photocopy of Nick Holly's work - how has he achieved the outcome? Is there lots of detail? Which parts of the piece really stand out?
Using coloured pencil / crayon or watercolours, can you recreate this artwork in your Creativity Book?
Classical Studies
Charlie and Alex will be in at 2pm to deliver their fantastic lesson on the Ancient World.
Have a wonderful day! See you tomorrow,
Mrs Williams
Wednesday 10th April
Good morning! Today you will be continuing with working on fractions in Maths.
Year 4:There is a PowerPoint below to develop your ability to calculate fractions of amounts, and an example of a fractions maze. Have a look at the maze and then have a go at the maze that has been printed out for you (please stick these in your maths books with the LO: To calculate fractions of amounts). Once you have completed a maze, try to create a fraction maze of your own on the blank sheet. You can ask a friend to find their way through your maze once you have finished making it!
Year 5: You will be further developing your skills of calculating fractions of amounts today. A toy shop is holding special sale - please calculate the new price for each item.
BE CAREFUL: Remember that you will need to first calculate the discount, then subtract the discount from the original price! Use the LO: To caluclate fractional discounts using money. Please cut each item out and stick it in your book - showing workings and answers clearly next to each one.
Tuesday 19th March
Think of two characters from the Deepwoods. How are their lives different? How are they the same? Using J2e, can you create a venn diagram to show their similarities and differences? Please share it with me (Williamse1735@hwbcymru) when you are finished.
Look at the example below to help you.

Monday Morning
Good morning!
I know you are all very familiar with the story of Icarus and Daedalus (if you’ve forgotten it you can watch it again here). Today I would like you to rewrite the story from Daedalus’s perspective - imagine how he would have been feeling at different points in the story and make sure you include the main features of a recount:
*Opens with who, where, when and what
*Written in chronological order
*Written in past tense
*Include a range of time connectives
*Ends with a concluding paragraph
Have a chat on your table to share ideas and plan it out before you begin. You will need to write in your Literacy books. Today’s L.O is To write a recount of an event
Make use of your ‘Spellings to help me’ books to spell tricky words, and don’t forget to include punctuation!
Monday Afternoon
Isn’t it easier to remember something when you sing it? Listen to some of the times table songs below, then work in pairs to choose the times table you find most challenging (be honest!). Your task is to rewrite the words to a well-known song of your choice, to help people learn your chosen times table. Write the lyrics in your maths book, under the L.O: To learn tricky times table with music and share your song with the rest of the class when you are ready! If you have time, you can record them on iPads / Chromebooks too. I can’t wait to hear your songs!
2 x Table
Research Task
* When did the first aeroplane take flight?
* Who built the first successful aeroplane?
*What is the North American X-15?
*What type of force does a plane generate?
*What is the name of the force that makes an aeroplane move forwards?
*What is the average cruising speed of a passenger plane?
*What is the average cruising altitude (height) of a passenger plane?
*What is a seaplane?
*Is a plane heavier or lighter than air?
*What is a monoplane?
*What is a biplane?
*What does Air Traffic Control do?
Off we go!
