This half term we are focusing on discussion and discussion writing. 

When writing about a topical question, it is important that we try to create a balanced argument with points supporting the question and points against (for and against).

Newspaper reports

Our text type focus this half term is recount. 

We have begun focusing on the features of a newspaper report as there are some complicated elements to try to use in our own writing. 

Challenge 1: This week we have been focusing on headlines and captions.

We looked at headlines and discussed the impact they might have on the reader, how successful they were and how they could be improved. 

We decided that the short, snappy, almost ambiguous headlines worked best. 

We used alliteration and puns to create our own headlines too! 

Can you select some images that interest you and write an effective headline using alliteration whilst keeping it short and snappy? Can you use less than 6 words?
