Remembrance Day

Remembrance Sunday is a National opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life. We  showed our respect today with a two minute silence at 11am. We hope that you have enjoyed sharing our poppy display along the grass bank at the rear of the school this week.

The children have been exploring the question, Why do we wear poppies on Remembrance Day?

The poppy is the enduring symbol of remembrance of the First World War. It is strongly linked with Armistice Day (11 November), but the poppy's origin as a popular symbol of remembrance lies in the landscapes of the First World War. Poppies were a common sight, especially on the Western Front. The children have also learnt about poppies of different colours and what they symbolise and helps us to remember.
