Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
A huge thank you to everyone for making our world book day such a special day by wearing such wonderful costumes and sharing your favourite books.
We have all had a wonderful day working with Alex, the Children's Laureate Wales. He has really inspired us with our creative writing and poetry.
A big thank you to our Year 6 pupils today for supporting groups of children across the school with activities to develop positive mental health strategies. Activities included Nature Art, Knitting, Treasure hunts, sporting activities and lots more!
Today the children have been making choices and having their voices heard!
The children have created their own timetable to choose which activities they would like to take part in across the school. The children have connected with other people in different classes. Good relationships are important for our mental wellbeing.
As part of our learning to support Children's Mental Health week we started the week with a walk in the woods to boost our mood and improve our physical and mental wellbeing.
Spending time in green space or bringing nature into our everyday life can benefit both our mental and physical wellbeing. For example, doing things like growing food or flowers, exercising outdoors or being around animals can have lots of positive effects. It can:
We all enjoyed walking quietly, listening to the birds and the water trickling in the stream. We also enjoyed watching a squirrel playing in the tree, a robin taking a bath and watching droplets of water making ripples in a puddle. We all had a relaxing time.
Congratulations goes to Y4/5 for winning the St Dwynwen challenge. The children were challenged today to release the characters frozen in a ball of ice in the fastest time. There were strict rules and staff could not help and join in the fun! Y4/5 children freed all the characters in an amazing 1minute 36 seconds. Congratulations!
Our whole school theme for this next term is ‘Good to be Me!’ and will be led by the Health and Wellbeing area of learning experience in the first half term, then leading to Expressive Arts for the second half term. This term we will also be involved in Holi celebrations and learning about our role to support ‘National Earth Day’. Class planning sheets which include the EPIC Planning by the pupils will be shared with you shortly. These planning sheets will also highlight the Literacy and Numeracy focus for the half term.
Our next focus week will take place week beginning, February 5th 2024, during which, the children will explore positive mental health activities for example gratitude journaling, outdoor time, creative expression, guided meditation, positive affirmations to support Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme is ‘My Voice Matters’.
My Voice Matters is about empowering children and young people by providing them with the tools they need to express themselves. When we feel empowered, there’s a positive impact on our wellbeing. Children who feel that their voices are heard and can make a difference have a greater sense of community and self-esteem. We want all our children to be empowered to work together to create a positive change for their mental health and wellbeing. During the week we plan to have an ‘Express yourself’ Day. We’re all different – we all have different things that make us tick and that bring a smile to our face. Express Yourself allows the children to celebrate what makes them unique with an incredibly fun dress-up day. We will give the children an opportunity for example to share their favourite hobby or wear their favourite colour or accessory. Express Yourself is about letting children’s voice shine through and empowering them to tell their own stories!

Thank you for joining us to sing carols together to end our school term. A big thank you to members of Dunvant Male Voice Choir for supporting our Christmas carol sing-a-long.
Last night all our bags of kindness were delivered to Mathews House. We are all so proud of the way in which the children have embraced this project. Click on the link below to read our story in the Evening Post.
